This is a really beautiful smock in such a sweet print.
Made in the late 1930s from textured lightweight cotton the smock has been beautifully made. French navy ground with a pretty design in pastel pink, green, white, blue and red it features long sleeves with button cuffs, gathered sleeve heads, a dropped back yoke which finishes in a point and a patch pocket on the right front at hip level.
Originally designed to be worn over your clothes to protect them while doing chores, it could easily be adapted to be worn out for everyday wear. With the addition of some poppers down the front it could be worn as a longline blouse or it could be shortened and adapted to become a more conventional length blouse.
However you decide to style it, it is far too pretty to only be used for chores!
Smocks, by design, are very loose fitting and have no shaping in the main body. This will fit a variety of bust sizes but the best indication as to whether this will work for you will be the shoulder measurement and the bicep measurement. Please check the measurements carefully to make sure this will work for you.
Flat bust 21"
Shoulders between sleeves 14.5"
Shoulder to hem 32.5"
Underarm sleeve length 16"
Flat bicep 6.5"
Very good with some minor points to note;
- there is an 8mm darn on the front of the smock on the left bodice
- on the back, by the dart at the bottom of the yoke, there is a small brown mark, which is crispy to the touch, and has a tiny hole - looks like a cigarette burn
- one small 8mm darn on the left bodice near the 2nd button down
