About Us

Established in 2012, we are a family run business, based in Suffolk, England. We specialise in true vintage attire from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, with the occasional bit of 1920s for good measure.

We have always loved the fashions and homewares of the 1930s and 1940s and have been re-enacting the lives of wartime civilians since 2004, attending lots of 1940s and living history weekends in the East of England. Our large collections outgrew our homes and so we started "1940s Style For You" as a way of sharing our love of vintage with others.

The pretty florals and tailored, military inspired, looks of the war years will always be our favourite pieces to find. Rummaging through attics and travelling all over the UK to purchase private collections, we never tire of seeking out those fabulous fashions of the 1930s and 1940s, and that much coveted CC41 label!

We started out knitting vintage jumpers for the 1940s re-enactors who wanted an authentic vintage looking knit when they couldn't find an original. Over the years we have knitted hundreds of pieces for happy customers. If you follow us on social media you may have seen that our knits are always very popular and many have found new homes around the world. All our pieces are hand knitted using original 1930s and 1940s patterns and we always try to create authentic reproduction pieces using colours true to the 1930s and 1940s.

We are passionate about recreating the fashions of the past. Our reproduction pieces are made using original 1930s, 1940s and 1950s sewing patterns and the majority of our garments are made using original 1930s and 1940s crepes, silks, rayons and cottons. Whenever possible, we use true vintage buttons, zips and trimmings.

We sometimes use modern cottons, which have been printed with a vintage inspired design, to make blouses. These fabrics are all machine washable which makes them easier to care for than the true vintage fabrics.

We try to replicate the fashions of the bygone eras using the finishing methods of the time, which means all our garments are hand finished with pinked edges or French seams. We do not use an over-locker.
