This is a really beautiful hat but, as so often happens with black hats, it has been hard to capture the details properly.
Made in the 1940's from inky black felt, it is a really unusual shaped piece. Very structured, it is designed to sit on an angle on the right hand side of your head, very much like the forage caps worn in the services during the war.
It is a high hat which has a raised, upturned section and is trimmed in the back with a twist of felt and has a little net bow detail.
Measurements
Inner band is 21"
Width 6.5"
Length 10"
Deepest point on the crown 3"
Condition
Very good condition with only minor points to note;
- there are marks on the inner banding, most likely make-up
- when held up to the light there are two areas of punched detail. I'm not sure what they are.
- there is a 6mm hole in the crown but it is hidden by the front brim and only seen when you're looking for it
