This 1940s apron was originally designed to be worn over your normal clothes and protect them while you're doing chores. However, the vibrant print, and cool cotton fabric, make it the perfect summer dress. Note the armholes are quite low so you may, or may not, want to wear something under it.
This piece has been very much loved and washed and worn. It is strong and has plenty of life left in it but it isn't perfect - but we feel this adds to the charm of this wartime piece.
Made from soft cotton with a polka dot design in orange, navy cornflower blue and soft lavender, it has a very, very faded CC41 label in the back neck - you have to squint to spot the design but it is there.
It goes on over your head and then has a tie back belt to cinch in the waist, there is a patch pocket and it is bound around the armholes and neck edge with navy cotton binding.
