Beautiful example of a finely worked petit point evening purse from the 1920s or 1930s.
Each side depicts a different scene with people and scenery surrounded by a floral border and set against a black ground.
It is fully lined with silk, still has the original mirror, and the frame is etched and set with a band of glass stones. The clasp is set with a black glass cabochon.
Width 6" at the base
Depth at side 3/4"
In its heyday it would have been such a wonderful piece but, sadly, the inner has not faired well over the years.
The silk is shattered, mostly near the pockets, but once silk starts to go there is no saving it. It is still perfectly useable and you could replace the lining, but I'd still use it as it is - a charming piece of vintage fashion.
Please also note there is some slight tarnishing on the metal work and there are two glass beads missing.
