This bag is absolutely glorious and the photographs don't do it justice.
Made in the 1950's, this luxury evening bag was made by the high end vintage brand, Waldybag.
The outer is black satin which has been entirely hand-painted with an intricate floral design. While the paint was still wet, teeny micro beads were set into it which created a glistening textured effect when dry. The wonderful decorative technique was designed and executed by Florence Campbell.
It has a gilt frame, pinch clasp and a neat handle, which is also decorated with the same floral design. The inner is fully lined with black and the Waldybag logo is embossed in gold paint on one side. There is a zip section in the middle, the zip works smoothly, and neat side pockets, including one for a lipstick.
A truly exceptional bag it would be an incredible addition to a collection.
The V&A have a similar piece within their collection and these bags were often made to order.
