This fabulous antique bag was made in France and is stamped Odette on the inner frame.
A patchwork piece it is made from two different stripe fabrics which have been joined together with metal thread and then over sewn with green and yellow stitching which is part of the design and never meant to be hidden, hence the stitches are bold.
It has a chunky gold tone frame which is etched with flowers and is fully lined. Finished off perfectly with a bovine bone clasp and real amber sphere.
A really beautiful bag, I've never seen one similar.
Please note the final photo shows how the amber glows under UV light.
Measurements
Width 10.5"
Height 6" excluding the clasp and 7" with
Condition
Fair to good with the following points to note;
- verdigris on the clasp, especially around the bone
- wear to the frame
- has some patches - done in the original fabric so very old repairs, could even be the fabric was patched before being turned into the bag
- marks on the lining
- some weave movement in one direction in some areas, mostly on the sides - see photos
- a few small old darns
Still presents really well and is an utterly fabulous piece!
