This piece really is spectacular!
Made in the late 1920's or early 1930's, this piece is the perfect summer hat for the vintage lover. Made from fine straw and labelled "Ho-Raye New York" it is trimmed with an inky black velvet band which ties in the back in an oversized bow and the brim is covered in a mass of fabric flowers in rich red and green.
The shaping on this piece is divine and it has a rounded crown which is shaped to be worn tilted to one side. The sweeping brim is wider in the front and sides than the back and has a wired edge to keep the fabulous shape!
This hat is for a 22" head, as stated on the label, but the inner band only measures 19.5" and I think the hat is better suited to a 21" head
Deepest point on the crown 3"
Very good with some minor points to note;
- when the hat isn't being worn, the crown is a little crumpled. This isn't an issue when the hat is fully on your head, as you can see from the photos
- when you look closely, there is minor wear to some of the flowers but there are so many little clusters that you have to really be inspecting the piece to see the little areas of wear
- the abundance of flowers has made the hat a little front heavy and so it will need to be secured in place with a hat pin or elastic
