This is such a fun novelty print.
Made in the 1940s, this cotton smock features a colourful border print with flowers in bold shades of purple, blue, red black and orange with wonderfully smiley green dragons.
Originally designed to be worn over your clothes to protect them while doing chores, it could easily be adapted to be worn out for everyday wear. With the addition of some poppers down the front it could be worn as a longline blouse or could even be belted and worn as a mini dress. Originally I thought this was home sewn but there is a small shred of a label remaining at the neck.
However you decide to style it, it is far too pretty to only be used for chores!
Measurements
Smocks, by design, are very loose fitting and no shaping in the main body. This will fit a variety of bust sizes but the best indication as to whether this will work for you will be the shoulder measurement and the bicep measurement. Please check the measurements carefully to make sure this will work for you.
Flat bust 25"
Shoulders between sleeves 14.5"
Shoulder to hem 37"
Underarm sleeve length 18.5"
Flat bicep 7"
Condition
Very good with some minor points to note;
- there are tiny areas of wear behind each of the buttons
- there is a faint mark on the collar
- there isn't a hem. This isn't a fault, when the piece was made they seamstress cleverly used the selvedge of the fabric as the hem which meant it didn't need to be turned up
