Original 1940's Bernice Holloway black crepe dress, which has been altered.
The bodice of the dress is original, as is the grosgrain peplum, however someone has remade the skirt.
The bodice is close fitting with a floppy collar and short, slim fitting sleeves. The dress has a deep grosgrain peplum which has a decorative pleated section in the back. The skirt is not original. Someone has clearly replaced what I can only assume was a damaged skirt. It has been replaced with modern polyester crepe and has been lined. The dress fastens with a long metal zip on the left side.
Even though it has been altered it is still a beautiful piece.
