This hat really is exceptional but, as so often happens when photographing black pieces, the photos really don't do it justice.
Made in the 1930s from inky black felt, it has a very close fitting design - like a skull cap - and a huge stand-up brim which has seaming detail and a grosgrain bow trim. The back has a little bit of felt decoration and someone has added a paste dress clip for added detail.

This is very close fitting and has to fit fully on your head. It will fit a 21" head maximum,

Condition
Beautiful. It looks like this piece has been little worn as it is in wonderful condition. Only minor points to note;
- some wear on the inner band which was probably caused by hat pins
- the dress clip isn't original to the hat and has a couple of small stones missing
