This stunning piece was made in the late 1930's.
Burnt orange crepe with cut-work bodice and sleeves backed with net, this is an utterly incredible piece. The sleeves are completely sheer but the bodice is lined meaning you don't need to wear a slip. The back neck fastens with too small hooks and eyes and the dress is finished off perfectly with a belt that fastens with a paste set double buckle.
Measurements
There is no side opening on this piece so you'll need to be able to fit your bust through the waist opening. To ensure that it will fit you properly, please compare the measurements below to a similar piece you already own;
Flat bust 19"
Flat waist 17" but this gets cinched in with the belt. The belt is currently measuring 30" but the buckle could easily be moved to obtain a smaller waist
Flat hip 21"
Shoulders between sleeves 14.5"
Underarm sleeve length 8.5"
Flat cuff 5.5"
Neck to waist 15.5"
Neck to hem 41.5"
Condition
The dress is in good condition with some points to note;
- when held up to the light there are three pinhead holes in the skirt - darning them would most likely make them more visible than they currently are
- there are a few self marks in the skirt, they are small and truly only seen when you're looking for them. They do not show up in the photos.
- there are some small, historic, repairs to the net
- there are a few small breaks in the net - main one is on the back bodice, as seen in the photos. There is enough spare net within the sleeves to mend these teeny holes but I worried it would make them more visible than they already are so have left them
- the main issue is the skirt has been badly shortened. The way they have shortened it is covered by the belt, thankfully, so it isn't very noticeable but the hem is a little wibbly and the the skirt fullness has been poorly set into the bodice but, as mentioned, the abominable work is covered by the belt
