This is such a gorgeous jacket in a sumptuous chocolate brown velvet.
A bespoke made piece dating to the late 1930s or early 1940s, it has beautiful tailoring and is fully lined and the main body lightly padded. The sleeves are lined with cotton in a fine stripe. Double button detail on the back above the vents, single button closure on the front and three buttons on each sleeve.
As a riding jacket, the shape of the piece is very specific and it doesn't fit like a classic tailored piece that you might find in a suit. It is narrow across the shoulders but has more room in the back of the sleeves and around the waist to allow the wearer to be comfortable while riding. There isn't a close fitting waist, it is a much looser fitting piece than that of a suit.
Would look fabulous with jodhpurs or high waisted trousers and a knit underneath. A really wonderfully made piece.
