This is an absolutely stunning suit and the print is just fabulous!
Made in the 1940's from medium weight linen the print features an outline image of the island of Jamaica along with their coat of arms and place names including Montego Bay, Kingston Town and Port Antonio.
The jacket has short sleeves with pleated sleeve heads and the piece fastens with large green buttons.
The skirt is simple in design and fastens down the left side with a nylon zip.
Such a striking piece.
Flat bust 19"
Flat waist 14.5"
Shoulders between sleeves 14"
Underarm sleeve length 3.5"
Flat cuff 6"
Flat waist 14"
Flat hip 19"
If the waist extension is removed then the flat waist will be 17", flat hip 23" and length 24".
It has clearly been homemade. The jacket has been well made with some nice details but there are some points to note;
- darn on the left shoulder blade and left sleeve
- darn on the centre back which is patched from the rear
- some very light marks
The skirt has more issues. Please note;
- there are some light marks in the printed section and some darker ones in the extension
- at some point, someone has made the skirt longer. To do this, they've added a 6.5" deep section to the waist and have replaced the zip with a nylon zip. The extension hasn't been done to the highest standard and in order for the insert to not be visible under the jacket you have to wear the skirt very, very high on the waist, if not above it. I would recommend you get the insert removed or altered as I think the piece will sit better with some care taken to restore it to the original state.
I have NOT washed the suit so don't know whether the marks will come out but they are faint and few and are lost within the fabulous print.
