This wonderful dress was made in the 1940's, post WW2, and carries the coveted 11011 label in both shoulders.
Labelled Mary Garden, 6a Northgate Street, Ipswich, Miss Mary Garden had a shop on Northgate Street for over 30 years. First as a milliner in the 1930's and then a ladies' outfitter which existed at 6a into the 1960's.
Made from heavy crepe it has broad shoulders with stiff shoulder pads giving you the iconic shape of the era, long sleeves with turn back cuffs, a gorgeous cutout on the bodice featuring an intricate design with net and beading and fabulous front drapes. It fastens down the left side with a metal zip and buttons down the back with clear faceted buttons.
A truly fabulous little black dress which would be a great addition to any vintage lover's wardrobe!
