This classic piece was made in the 1940's.
Made from chocolate brown crepe it is a timeless frock and has the iconic silhouette of the era with a nipped waist and big shoulder pads giving the strong shoulder detail.
The bodice is close fitting and fastens with two fabric covered buttons, decorated with beading and sequins. It has neat sleeves with little turn back cuffs and the shoulders have fabulous epaulettes decorated with beading and sequins.
The skirt has wonderful drape and is smooth fitting in the back but fuller in the front with gathers around the pocket flap detail (decorative only, the dress does not have pockets). Finished off perfectly with the original belt.

Condition
Good with some points to note - please read the following points carefully as the dress is not perfect;
- the sequins originally had an irridescent coating on them and some of this has worn away, especially on the buttons
- has had a number of darns - two on the back left bodice/one bottom right skirt/11 in the front skirt, mostly near the hem but there is one higher up in the front skirt, between the pocket flaps/one on the left front bodice on the bust/one beside the popper placket
- two 3mm dark spots in the skirt near the hem
- when held up to the light there are a few pinholes in the skirt, not seen in wear
- has some overall discolouration, ranging from darker brown to a red brown, but this is even and wouldn't be seen at all if worn to an evening dance
Although it isn't perfect it is still an amazing dress with lots of wear left in it.
