This is a lovely example of an original 1940s fair isle waistcoat.
Made from very fine wool, it has been knitted beautifully in pretty shades of green, red and yellow on a natural base. The front is patterned but the back is all rib which makes this a close fitting piece. It is finished with tiny little buttons.
A wonderful piece of original knitwear.
Measurements
It is a very petite piece and will fit a 32" bust maximum. To ensure this will fit you, please compare the measurements below to a similar garment you already own;
Flat bust 16"
Flat waist 14"
Shoulders between sleeves 14"
Shoulder to hem 17" on the back and 19" to the point tip on the front
Underarm to waist 9"
Condition
Good vintage with some points to note;
- there is some colour run from the red wool which has turned the natural wool on the front a slightly pink shade
- there are a number of small darns in the body of the knit, around some button holes and on the rib band and there is a slightly noticeable mend on the right bodice near the armhole
- there is some slight fluffing to the knit
The knit has been frozen for 72 hours to ensure it is moth free and has been carefully washed in wool detergent and is fresh and ready to wear.
