This fabulous dress was made in the 1940's.
Made from floppy cotton it has a fabulous print of bows and ribbons in grey, white and black on a rich red base. The bodice is smooth fitting, fastens with black buttons right up to the top and has a neat collar. The panelled skirt is hip skimming and the piece fastens with poppers on the left side.
Measurements
The dress will fit up to a 34-28-38 but to ensure it will fit you properly, please compare the measurements below to a similar piece you already own;
Flat bust 17"
Flat waist 14.5"
Flat hip 22"
Shoulders between sleeves 14"
Underarm sleeve length 5.5"
Flat cuff 6"
Shoulder to waist 16"
Shoulder to hem 43.5" with no hem allowance
Circumference of skirt at hem 62"
Condition
Fair with the following points to note;
- wear to all buttonholes - see photos
- strengthening has been added behind all the buttons
- placket is scruffy at the top
- minor seam stress in some places
- there are 4 small patches, all of which I only spotted when I turned the dress inside out to press - 2 are on the bodice and 2 in the skirt - because of the busy print they aren't noticeable from the outside unless you're actively looking for them
- someone has dropped the hem to the maximum and in doing so has been a bit rough so there are some small pin and pinhead holes from the original hemline, again, only seen when held up to the light
Even though it isn't perfect it is still a fabulous piece.
