This is a charming, and iconic, cotton floral house dress from the 1940's.
This piece was originally designed to be worn over a dress to protect the clothes when housework was being done. However, it makes a perfect day dress and is far too good to only be worn in the home.
Made from medium weight cotton it features a charming print with leaves in red and white on a navy blue background. Button front closure, two hip pockets and neatly shaped top pocket, smart collar and puff sleeves, it is an iconic shape of the era.
Belted and worn with a straw hat it is perfect for summer.
The dress will best fit up to a 38-32-40 but to ensure it will fit you properly, please compare the measurements below to a similar piece you already own;
Flat bust 19"
Flat waist 16.5"
Flat hip 22"
Shoulders between sleeves 15"
Shoulder to waist 15"
Shoulder to hem 42"
Underarm sleeve length 7"
Flat cuff 5"
Good with some points to note;
- there is an L shaped repair on the left front skirt - it is mostly lost within the print and I didn't spot it until pressing it on the reverse
- a repair on a buttonhole in the skirt - see photos
- small repairs on the pocket edges, as so often happens
- there is some fade down one side - it is more noticeable on the shoulder and sleeve but is still a stunning even with the fade
- belt loops but no belt
