This fabulous little set was home sewn in the 1950's.
Made from rose pink cotton with a teeny diamond print in ivory, the swimsuit features contrast ruffle bust and straps in ivory rayon. It has a close fitting waist and wide hips and fastens down the back with a metal zip.
The bolero is a classic shape of the era, is unlined, and has two hand made buttonholes on the front shoulders which correspond with the buttons on the suit to keep the bolero in place.
Measurements
The suit is cotton and has no stretch. It is also not meant to be super close fitting so will fit up to a 36-28-38. The flat waist is 15" and the flat hip 22" but it is quite lightweight cotton so has little hold and the aforementioned measurements are the maximum recommended.
The back zip looks to be a replacement and is much shorter than the original zip - the stitch marks for the original zip are visible - and it makes getting it over the hips a bit of a wiggle but a longer zip would remedy that if it is an issue.
Condition
Very good. Only minor points to note;
- there is a single pinhead mark on the right bodice of bolero on the bust
- the ivory fabric on the suit is a little darker than that of the bolero. It is the same fabric but am guessing the suit was worn more
- the zip has been replaced at some point and stitch marks from the original longer zip remain
Has been washed, pressed and is ready to wear.
